AH Bracks Library Temporarily Closes for Renovations

AH Bracks Library will temporarily close from Monday, 19 March 2018 until September 2018 while it undergoes renovation works to upgrade and modernise the library space.

Upgrades include a new southern entrance and car park, new meeting rooms, new kids space and adult retreat, improved study and reading spaces, a library lab and renewed furniture.

During the closure, library members will have additional access to a temporary library located in LeisureFit Melville, across from AH Bracks Library, as well as a pop-up library out the front of Hawaiian Melville. Civic Square Library will open Sundays during this period, and the Canning Bridge Library is set to receive 4,000 additional books.

The works are part of a City-wide library upgrade program which will see upgrades at each of the City’s five libraries. AH Bracks Library is thefinal library to undergo renovations, with Bull Creek Library recently completing their three month upgrade in December 2017.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the changes in store for the AH Bracks Library will improve access to the facility as well as ensuring it meets community needs now and in the future.

“As part of the upgrade, we are building a new southern entrance and car park which will make access to the library easier, especially during peak periods,” Mayor Aubrey said.

“We are also completing a full interior refurbishment and changes to the layout, which will increase overall space and allow for a designated children’s area and improved spaces for studying, reading and relaxing.

“We understand that we have a diverse mix of people using the library who all have different requirements. We have listened to our library users and are providing the space and facilities they need.

“We apologise for the inconvenience, but encourage the public to make good use of our other libraries at Civic Square, Bull Creek, Canning Bridge and Willagee.”

The refurbishment requirements for the AH Bracks Library were identified in the Future Plan for Libraries and Museums. The library upgrade program forms part of the larger plan to revitalise the City’s libraries and includes input from community members who took part in the Creative Conversations Cultural Survey earlier in 2017.

Works will also be occurring at LeisureFit Melville, located onsite with AH Bracks Library, during the library closure. LeisureFit Melville’s main reception will close for renovations and a temporary reception will open alongside the temporary library at LeisureFit Melville. No other areas will close and all services and programs will continue as normal.
