Calling youth to pitch ideas for up to $3,000 funding
Youth Pitch is back for 2018 and this year the City of Melville is encouraging young people to pitch their ideas for its Youth Week Skate Jam for a chance to receive up to $1,000 to make it a reality.
The City is looking for ideas to make the event bigger and better and will allocate a total of up to $3,000 of participatory funding to successful applicants as judged by a selection panel, including young people from the Headspace Youth Reference Group.
Any type of idea for the event is welcome, so long as it is run by young people, for young people, and takes place at the Youth Week Skate Jam at Melville Skate Park.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said Youth Pitch was a great way to mark and celebrate national Youth Week WA from 13 to 22 April, as it perfectly aligned with this year’s theme ‘Illuminate – Djoondal Djoomba.’
“Youth Pitch is a fantastic opportunity to empower young people to make this event their own, with an opportunity to create, pitch and then run their very own activities at the event. We want them to bring their creativity and energy to the space and make it a place where young people want to be.” Mayor Aubrey said.
“If you’re aged between 12 and 25, I encourage you to get together with your friends, classmates and peers to start talking about what ideas you could pitch to make the event bigger and better.”
“Then head to www.melvilletalks.com.au/youthpitch2018 to join the conversation, see what others think of your idea, and to pitch it to the City.”
Youth Pitch submissions close on Sunday, 11 March 2018 and the selection panel will decide on and notify the successful pitchers who will then have close to a month to prepare for the event on Monday, 16 April 2018.
The Youth Week Skate Jam is a collaborative project, brought to you by the City of Melville and Skateboarding WA.
