Melville calls to businesses to help with Safety Project

Local businesses are invited to submit expressions of interest (EOI) to join a Business Community Reference Group (BCRG) who will assist the City of Melville design and implement a Business Safety Project.

As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to achieving Safety and Security, the BCRG will comprise 12 members who represent a cross-section of the business community and will work together to assist the City explore the safety needs and concerns of local businesses.

Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said reducing business crime was a goal in the City’s  2017 – 2021 Safer Melville Plan and from this the Business Safety Project had been conceived.

“When we surveyed our local businesses in 2016, they told us they were less satisfied with safety and security than our local residents. Statistics also tell us that household and business crimes account for 87% of all crime across the City,” said Mayor Aubrey.

“While everyone contributes towards a Safer Melville whether it be in your street, suburb or neighbourhood, the City plays a leadership role in working towards a safe and secure community and through the Business Safety Project we hope to be able to identify and address safety concerns of our local businesses”

Businesses interested in taking part on the BCRG will need to submit an EOI which requires a representative to be nominated from that business.

A number of criteria will also need to be met with nominees agreeing to the Terms of Reference, which aims to ensure a diverse representation of the business community in terms of size of business, industry type, a commitment to attend all BCRG meetings and a willingness to participate in community discussions via Melville Talks the City’s online engagement website.

The Expression of Interest period will be open from Monday, 5 February to Friday, 16 February 2018.

Nominees will be informed of the outcome by Friday, 23 February 2018 with the first reference group meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 6 March 2018.
