Nominate Your Friendly Neighbour – Submissions open
As part of celebrations for Neighbour Day the City of Melville is asking the community to nominate their great neighbours for a Friendly Neighbour Award for a chance to win one of five $100 gift vouchers.
Once nominations close, the community will be asked to cast their vote for Melville’s friendliest neighbours and the five nominations with the most votes will receive a City of Melville Friendly Neighbour Award and a gift voucher.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the awards were a great opportunity for the residents to say thank you and show their appreciation to the friendly people in their neighbourhoods.
“Over the years we’ve heard of some great superhero neighbours who go above and beyond to make their communities a safe and friendly place to live,” Mayor Aubrey said.
“This includes our winners from last year, who were nominated for a range of reasons including their extremely welcoming demeanour towards new residents, helping with pets, gardening, children, or cooking, organising neighbourhood gatherings, sharing their tools or home-grown vegetables, or simply being available for a cup of tea and a chat.
“Nominating your friendly neighbours for a Friendly Neighbour Award is a great way to acknowledge them for everything they do for you and the community.
“I look forward to reading this year’s nominations and encourage the community to get involved and nominate their friendly neighbours for an award, or simply vote once submissions are closed.”
Nominations for the Friendly Neighbour Awards are open and close 9.00am Monday, 16 April 2018.
Nominations can be made at www.melvilletalks.com.au/friendlyneighbours.
Friendly Neighbourhood Grants of up to $250 are also available throughout the year to help communities host an event in their neighbourhood. This could be for any type of event − a barbeque, activity or street party, so why not get your grant applications in and celebrate Neighbour Day 2018!
Register your Neighbour Day event at www.neighbourday.org to receive a free e-kit resource to help organising your event and keep up-to-date on neighbourly news and ideas.
Celebrated Australia-wide on the last Sunday in March (25 March 2018), Neighbour Day encourages people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood in order to build relationships and strengthen community bonds.
